Long Fast or How my 75 year old grandmother was fasting for two weeks.

When my grandma was 35 years old she felled down and broke her leg. When the doctor made the x-ray in the hospital he said that after such incident she will likely be a cripple. She was 35 years old at that time and did not have a desire to become a cripple...
...My grandma's leg was blue and swollen with ugly redness. The doctor who did a check up in the hospital - explained my grandma that condition of the leg is very bad - he asked nurses to gather urine from everyone ( yes , modern human may think that it is somewhat disgusting and horrible to wrap your broken leg in someone's urine - but this is because of the modern ignorance :) ). |
Urine is an ancient medicine and has such healing powers that miracles happen from external application of it. You may want to read the article on urine that I wrote if you have not done so ( the link will apper here). You may want to bookmark this page so you can come back later.
So they gathered urine from nurses , soacked the towel in it and wrapped around the swallen feet with two plastic bags. The next day the swollen part of the leg came back to normal. After two days of urine application the redness disappeared. The doctor was satisfied with external look of a leg and he attributed all the healing to quick application of urine right after the accident...
Life is interesting.... In the hospistal where she stayed there were 2 scientists visiting from Moscow... They stopped by her room to see the x-ray. They told her that they just came back from the seminar on long fast in hungary and fasting is a natural way of healing - if she was willing to try they would edxplain her a little bit more. At that time nobody knew about fasting in Soviet Union and this was very "alternative" in the "eyes" of modern medicine....
After examining x rays they toild her that there is a high probability that she will be a cripple. So they advised her to try long fast if she wants to heal her bones. She did not know anything about fasting at that time so they asked for her address and promised to mail her a book once it will be released... (in about 2 weeks she recieved the promised book , read it right away and decided to start fasting).

My granma knew that it would be extremely difficult for her to fast in the hospital, so she requested to be sent home.
She followed instructions in the book - at the beginning of long fast the daily morning enema was a must (warm water). She did water enema only for the first three days of fasting and later stopped as she did not "see" the need for it. As she was doing daily enemas to detoixify her body, the smell was very unpleasant of the staff leaving the body - old stored "garbage" was coming out.
During her fasting there was no food or water intake. The only thing what was allowed is to get some water in her mouth and later spit it out. She kept it a secret so no one in the family knew that she was fasting. Bare in mind that she had to cook for a large family so the willpower had to be very strong not to break the fast with tasteful items that she was preparing in the kitchen. Yes, although she had tough bandage around her leg she still was working around the kitchen.
Back to fasting - she was allowed to drink a table spoon of home red wine if she felt really miserable.
The first days of fasting she felt hunger, discomfort, desire to drink etc. On the day 7 she started getting weak and dizzy - she would get to her bed, lay down for about 20-30 minutes until she felt better. Entire fasting she spend on crouches, so this was not easy at all but the desire to be healthy was stronger then desire to satisfy her belly.
On the 14th day of the long fast she felt STRONG desire to eat as it was described in the book - the body will signal you when cleansing is complete...
Exiting from fasting is very important. She started chewing the bread from morninjg till night so the stomack juice would start appear again - basically this was done to reinstate digestive function of the body. She chewed about 10 pieces of bread not swallowing - just chewiog and later spitting out... Altough she did not set the goal to lose any weight she lost 24 pounds during these two weeks.
So after chewing the bread for the whole day, she felt great urge to eat someething tasty. She fried an egg and ate it. Needless to say she put herself in danger. The worst thing you can do is eat something fried right after fasting. The proper way is to start with fresh vegetables for about 3 days and only later start including dead foods like cooked meals.
Her family called emergency as she felt miserable. She said that she poisoned herself ( she would not say the truth as fasting was too "out of the box" for a "normal mind" - sort of like back in the times, when the scientist was saying that the Earth was round when everyone believed it was not).
She got out of the hospital in couple of days and returned to her "normal " way of eating. In a month she had a doctor check up - they took another x-ray ...when doctor walked in, looked at x-ray and said that there was a mistake - he said that they probably misplaced her x ray with someone elses.
He insisted on secondary x ray but my grandmother did not want to have second radiation dose taken, eventually she agreed. When doctor looked at the second x ray he could not believe - the bones were all in great shape and he looked at her and said :" You got very lucky.....Very..." - he kept looking at the xray and repeating the same phrase. He said that it looked like she never had anything broken...
Fasting turns own body's own healing power where the system starts repairing itself. A lot of energy is spent on digesting food. For instance to digest fresh apple it takes half an hour - to digest baked apple - 4 hours. Our foods primarly cooked so there is a heavy burden on the digestive system...
Summing it up... when I asked my grandmother if she can repeat fasting she said that she does not want to - there is no burning "need or urge" present... You see human being is a creature that usually waits untill something bad happens where he or she is willing to try "o0ut of the ordinary" to survive... My granma was against the wall - to be a cripple in 35 years or do something out of her normal way of thinking. She has chosen fasting...
I encourage you not to afraid experimenting with your body. Your body is a self healing mechanism. Just get acquainted with it and live in harmony with it.
My grandmother is alive today, she is feeling fine... contrary to a popular belief that she would be dead long ago without meat and water intake...
Unfortunately, we wait for the life to put us in the extreeme conditions so we learn "to push our boundaries"... If you can take something from this example - learn how to live without boundaries...Only you define what your boundaries are...let no one else to dictate you how tolive your life...
My 75 year old grandmother's message to you :" Be bold and courageous...life is short, there is no time to be weak. Take your health back in your possession. Do not leave it to "experts that are great in disease management ".
